Northern Territory Police Minister, Terry Mills has paid tribute to Territory Police officers at the annual National Police Remembrance Day service at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Darwin.

Chief Minister Mills said today’s service was an opportunity to pause and reflect on the difficult, often dangerous and potentially life threatening work all of our Police officers undertake.

“National Police Remembrance day honours those Police officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their work.” Chief Minister Mills said.

“Today, we remember all those Police men or women who have lost their lives while protecting people across Australia, in the regions and in the Northern Territory.”

“Thankfully, this past year no Territory Police officers were killed while on duty however, the danger they face every day remains very real.” Chief Minister Mills said.

“The extensive man hunt to find accused killer, Jonathon Andrew Stenburg in July was a particularly high-risk situation where our Police did an extraordinary job.”

“For six days they put their own lives on the line to protect the residents of Berry Springs and wider Darwin community and apprehended the suspect without incident.” Chief Minister Mills said.

“For this, and all their other tremendous work, we as a community owe a great debt of gratitude to all our Police officers.”

“They continually put themselves in harm’s way to make our lives safer.”

“On behalf of all Territorians I thank them for their service.” Chief Minister Mills said.

Victoria Police must be commended in the manner in which they investigated the case of the rape and murder of Jill Meagher.

This case has emotionally affected everyone across Australia and so we praise the work of Victoria Police in this particular case.

Editor Victor P Taffa when visiting Melbourne has stayed in a motel in Parkville which is very close to Sydney Road and Brunswick. The case of the rape and murder of Jill Meagher has also emotionally affected Editor Victor P Taffa.
