Tasmania Shadow Minister for Forestry Peter Gutwein
Labor Treating Regional Communities With Contempt
Victor P Taffa
Labor is continuing to treat regional communities with contempt with the latest on the run changes to the process for allocating Forest Deal compensation, Shadow Minister for Forestry Peter Gutwein said.
- Confirmation from Minister David O’Byrne that not all of the funding will be spent in regional Tasmania, which has been decimated by the Labor-Green Forest Deal;
- David O’Byrne’s pitiful 10-day extension for consideration of projects, which will not stop Federal and State Labor making funding decisions based upon the upcoming Federal election, instead of what is best for regional Tasmania;
- Mr. O’Byrne’s inclusion of the Forest Deal Signatories in the decision-making process which is a slap in the face to regional communities who are suffering because of the very actions of the Signatories in negotiating the Forest Deal, supported by Labor;
- Comments today by a ‘Labor source’ that the funding process for the Forest Deal compensation has ‘outrageous’ deadlines and is a ‘politically motivated’ process by Federal Labor seeking to act before caretaker mode*
“If Labor doesn’t commit to a full and proper process, and to spending all of the remaining funding in regional communities decimated by the Forest Deal, then the Legislative Council is more than within its rights to reject the first reserve order, thereby repealing the entire Forest Deal.” Mr. Gutwein said.
