Vulnerable people across regional New South Wales will have access to brand new, fit-for-purpose social and affordable housing thanks to a $41 Million investment from the New South Wales Government.

102 new properties will be built for seniors, older women and younger people at risk of homelessness across Dubbo, South Kempsey, Wagga Wagga, Nowra, Queanbeyan East and Wauchope from the sale of ageing and unfit properties in Millers Point.

This is on top of 40 social, affordable and private units that will be built at Tweed Heads, which was announced earlier this year.

Minister for Water Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the New South Wales Government is committed to delivering purpose-built social housing for those who are doing it tough in rural and regional New South Wales.

“We are committed to breaking the cycle of disadvantage and delivering better social outcomes for our most vulnerable.” Minister Pavey said.

“Our priority is creating more and better social housing through the Millers Point sales program. To date, we have built more than 1,300 new homes.”

Minister Pavey said the funding package would not only help house the State’s most vulnerable people, but would also help deliver a lifeline to regional communities.

“By funding the development of new social and affordable properties in rural and regional areas, we can ensure local trade business are used, people are employed and the local economy receives the vital boost it needs.” Minister Pavey said.

New homes will be delivered under the New South Wales Government’s $22 Billion Communities Plus building program which will see 23,500 new and replacement social and affordable dwellings delivered across New South Wales over the next 10 years.
