Government Bungling And Incompetence Exposed In Railway Fiasco
Victor P Taffa
The Labor-Green Government has known that the West Coast Wilderness Railway was in trouble for years*, according to Opposition Leader Will Hodgman.
“Yet this incompetent Government has sat on their hands and done nothing, more concerned with their own political self-interest and their deal to shut down the forest industry. Instead of working to fix the problems months ago the Government was asleep at the wheel.” Mr. Hodgman said.
“Infrastructure Minister David O’Byrne and Tourism Minister Scott Bacon should have been working to address the problem last year. Instead, they are spinning like tops after the event.”
“A majority Liberal Government would have urgently pulled out all the stops to fix the problem as soon as it became apparent, including by investing an additional $16 Million in tourism marketing in order to attract more visitors to our tourism attractions such as the West Coast Wilderness Railway.” Mr. Hodgman said.
*Tourism Minister Scott Bacon revealed this morning on ABC local radio that the Government has known about the railway’s difficulties since at least December, and the 2011-12 DIER annual report clearly states that “…the operating environment and market place of the railway have changed significantly” and that the Government was assessing “…all aspects of the railway and lease”
