The Country Liberals will use Parliament to attack Chief Minister Paul Henderson’s support for his staff who leaked information to the media about a Police Raid at the home of Darwin Lord Mayor Graeme Sawyer.

Manager of Opposition Business and Shadow Attorney-General John Elferink said the Chief Minister must provide a full account of his Government’s involvement in the raid finding their way to the media.

“The Opposition will push for an independent investigation into this grubby affair.” Mr. Elferink said.

“In his capacity as Chief Minister and Police Minister, Paul Henderson must offer a full account of his office’s involvement in this matter to Parliament.”

“Paul Henderson’s support for this matter confirms the old adage that a fish rots from the head down.” Mr. Elferink said.

“The Government launched a Police investigation into the identity of the whistle-blower who leaked details of the Government’s plan to introduce boat registration.”

“When a child protection worker leaked details of the shocking mistreatment of a motherless infant by Family and Community Services, the Minister promised to hunt down and prosecute whoever leaked the information.” Mr. Elferink said.

“When his own staffs are caught out playing grubby politics, Paul Henderson closes ranks.”

“This is hypocrisy of the highest order.” Mr. Elferink said.

“Territorians have a right to expect their Government is above this type of dirt politics and the Opposition will use Parliament to bring Labor to account.”

Mr. Elferink said the Country Liberals will also target law and order, the Alice Springs crime wave, the Territory’s high cost of living and the budget blow-out over the next two weeks.
