Minister for Infrastructure, David O’Byrne must ensure Tasmanians that urgent repair works, including warning signage, take place following substantial pavement collapses along the length of the Midland Highway between Launceston and Hobart in recent days, according to Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding.

“This week’s strong rains have again exposed 13 years of Labor neglect of basic strategic asset management programs now highlighted by new large potholes and extended areas of pavement failure.” Mr. Hidding said.

“Some of the new potholes which have appeared all along the highway are already of an alarming size and over the next few days will increase in size providing serious road safety risks.”

“It is clear that the Green-Labor Government would not want to highlight its appalling maintenance practices, but at least on the worst sections, there needs to be warning signs.” Mr. Hidding said.
