No Seaford Trains Until 2014?

The Weatherill Labor Government has again let down residents in the southern suburbs by failing to deliver electric train services from Seaford to Noarlunga this year.

Until recently the Government was promising to open the Noarlunga to Seaford rail extension in late 2013.

Late yesterday a notice was posted on the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure website that indicates the Seaford service will not open until next year.

Shadow Minister for Transport Vickie Chapman said the Government must explain to residents in the southern suburbs why the line will not be opened on time.

“Yesterday Minister Koutsantonis was forced to embarrassingly announce the Noarlunga line would not reopen until possibly December.” Ms. Chapman said.

“Now it looks like services will not start on the Noarlunga to Seaford section until next year.”

“Residents in the southern suburbs have been bombarded with information during the past few years saying they will have a Seaford to Noarlunga service by late 2013.”

“If that now is not the case Minister Koutsantonis must explain why the Government has broken that promise.” Ms. Chapman said.

Former Labor Premier Mike Rann promised to electrify the Adelaide Rail Network. His replacement Labor Premier Jay Weatherill has failed to deliver on this commitment.
