Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has congratulated Brisbane’s John Millman having defeated the great Roger Federer at the US Open.

Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles. It was the first time John had reached the fourth round in any.

“Queensland has a proud history in tennis.” Premier Palaszczuk said.

“Pat Rafter, Rod Laver and Daphne Fancutt to name just a few.”

“To have defeated a champion the calibre of Roger Federer must be an incredible thrill for John and his family and we are all so proud.” Premier Palaszczuk said.

Millman made his debut at the Brisbane International aged 21.

Critics are calling his defeat of Federer as one of the greatest upsets of the game.

It was huge battle: 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6

“We Queenslanders are like that.”
