Car Firebombed, Two Men Arrested After Pursuit – Auburn

Two men have been arrested following a Police pursuit after a car was fire bombed at Auburn last night.

About 10:50pm, a black Honda Accord was seen in Sheffield Street, Auburn driving with its headlights off.

Police will allege at the time another vehicle in the street had just been firebombed.

A few minutes later, officers from Flemington Highway Patrol were travelling South on Cumberland Road when they saw the Honda fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Cumberland Road and Cardigan Street.

Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop the car, however, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit the driver of the Honda failed to negotiate a bend on Cumberland Road and struck the rear of a red Honda Civic which was travelling in the opposite direction. No one was injured as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Honda, a 23-year-old Auburn man was arrested after a short foot pursuit while his passenger, a 21-year-old Mount Pritchard man was also arrested.

Both men were taken to Auburn Police Station.

The 23-year-old man was charged with:

  • Damaging property by fire,
  • Driving a vehicle in a speed/manner dangerous,
  • Negligent driving.

The 21-year-old man was charged with:

  • Damaging property by fire,
  • Breach of bail.

Both men were refused bail and are expected to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
