Tasmania Shadow Treasurer Peter Gutwein
Libs Welcome Support For State’s Plumbers

The Tasmanian Liberals today welcome the support of the Green-Labor Government to disallow the proposed 1,250 % price hike in plumber registration fees, Shadow Treasurer Peter Gutwein said today.
“We are also pleased that the Green-Labor Government saw fit to accept our suggestions to refer this important issue to the Select Committee on the Costs of Housing, Building and Construction in Tasmania chaired by Rene Hidding MP, to fully review the issue of plumbers licensing, the fees they pay and the impact on customers.” Mr. Gutwein said.
“Qualified plumbers running their own businesses were initially told that the $54.40 p.a. that they were paying to register as a plumber would increase to a massive $734.40.”
“The Liberals first raised the issue in Parliament last year and it is pleasing to see that the Green-Labor Government has finally come it its senses and disallowed this excessive impost on plumbers that was never anything but blatant cash grab by a desperate State Government.” Mr. Gutwein said.
