Man Charged Over Hotel Glassing – Coogee

Police have charged a man in relation to the ‘glassing’ of a pub patron at Coogee last night.

About 8.40pm, the 37-year-old victim was standing in the bar queue on the third level of the hotel on Dolphin Street, when another man walked past bumping into people with his raised arms and elbows.

The man was allegedly struck in the face with a schooner glass, and then punched.

The man suffered extensive facial wounds and was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital. He is being treated for a broken nose, a deep laceration under his left eye socket and possible damaged eye.

The other man, aged 24, was detained by security until the arrival of police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command.

The man has been charged with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and has been bail refused to appear at Waverley Local Court today.
