‘Spring Street Six’ Must Stand Down

It is untenable for the ‘Spring Street Six’ to continue to sit in Cabinet and make decisions while they are under Police investigation, Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said.

“This morning I wrote to the Premier to advise that as six of his Ministers have refused to stand down while they are under Police investigation by the Fraud and Extortion Squad, a Liberal Nationals Government will review all subsequent government appointments and decisions made by these tainted Ministers.”

In particular it is untenable for the Attorney General, as the chief law officer, to be under Police investigation at a time when Victoria is experiencing a violent crime crisis and a public that is losing confidence in the judiciary.

If Premier Daniel Andrews persists with running a protection racket for the tainted six Ministers, a future Liberal Nationals Government will have no option but to consider this period of government to be now in caretaker mode.

“Victorians deserve better than this lame-duck administration that Daniel Andrews is now leading.”

“I have also advised the Premier that if a decision or appointment is necessary, he should seek the Liberal Nationals’ consent as per caretaker conventions.” Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said.
