Greenlands Road Upgrade Stage 2 Set To Start

Victor P Taffa

The Upgrade of a Major Road Linking the South Western and Forrest highways is continuing, with the second and final stage of the Project to commence next month.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport, Murray-Wellington MLA Murray Cowper, said the State Government would spend $2.45 Million on Stage 2 of the works.

“The upgrade is part of a project to improve Greenlands Road, which is an important 6 km section of road between Forrest and South Western highways on the southern side of Pinjarra.” Mr. Cowper said.

“The road is being upgraded in two stages. Stage 1 was completed in October 2009 and involved widening the road from 6 m to 10 m between Forrest Highway and Sutters Lane.”

“The second stage of the works, between Sutters Lane and South Western Highway near Pinjarra, requires a major realignment and intersection connection.”  Mr. Cowper said.

“This realignment and widening will cater for increased traffic volumes and move traffic away from an existing residential area.”

“The works involve the building and sealing of approximately 2 km of road and the construction of a traffic roundabout at the intersection of Greenlands Road and South Western Highway.” Mr. Cowper said.

Greenlands Road forms the shortest and most logical route to Pinjarra Townsite from Forrest Highway.

The $2.45 Million contract is due to commence next month, with work expected to be completed by March 2011.
