2019 Northern Territory Youth Round Table will have their final meeting today where they will present and deliver their final projects and recommendations direct to Government for consideration.

“Young people are the future leaders of our nation. As a Government, we are investing in the future of the Territory by giving young Territorians a voice and an opportunity for them to shape current and future policies, programs, and services.” Minister for Territory Families Dale Wakefield said.

“This year’s Northern Territory Youth Round Table members are outstanding young Territorians who have bright ideas for our future, as well as concerns that as a Government we have listened to, and will take on board when considering future policies, programs and services.”

Youth Round Table consists of 16 outstanding young Territorians (aged 15-25 years) who represent the geographic, cultural and ethnic diversity of the Territory and are taking on leadership roles in their communities.

Youth Round Table is a platform for young Territorians to raise issues and communicate their ideas direct to Government.

Projects that the Youth Round Table members will present today include:

  • Ongoing involvement in the NASA Rocket Launch in Nhulunbuy 2020
  • Water conservation in Alice Springs
  • Creating cultural calendars for foster and kinship carers
  • Recycling vending machines across the Northern Territory
  • Youth suicide prevention and mental health awareness through the design and sale of a clothing line ‘PRVT Apparel’

“My time on the round table has been amazing in a lot of ways. It has challenged me and helped open my mind not only to the complex and unique issues facing Territorians but to so many other incredible young people all over the Northern Territory who are so passionate about their communities.”

“I am really grateful to be a part of the 2019 Youth Round Table.” Northern Territory Young Australian of the Year & Northern Territory Youth Round Table Member Mitchell Ford said.

Territory Government will consider the youth issues, concerns, and ideas raised in the members’ projects and from discussions throughout the year.

Territory Government congratulates Youth Round Table member Mitchell Ford from Katherine, who was recently named the 2020 Northern Territory Young Australian of the Year.
