Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Ken Vowles, today announced the Northern Territory Government’s Earth Science/Mining/Petroleum Scholarship is open for applications.

“Territory Government is creating jobs and providing opportunities for young Territorians to enter the resources sector through this scholarship.” Minister for Primary Industry and Resources Ken Vowles said.

“If we can help young Territorians gain the skills and qualifications they need to work in an industry that contributes greatly to our economy and has plenty of room for growth, we are maximising the chances of them settling and remaining in the Territory.”

Northern Territory Government is creating jobs for Territorians, and the scholarship provides a pathway for aspiring earth scientists, metallurgists, and mining and petroleum engineers to enter the resources industry.

“Scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies by not splitting time between work and uni.” last year’s scholarship winner Jason O’Meara said.

“My first year at The University of Melbourne has exceeded my expectations they have amazing Earth Science classes with great practicals, which are way more fun and helpful than High School Pracs.”

Scholarship provides $12,000 a year for 3 years to a student from the Northern Territory who undertakes a university course in one of those subjects, and provides work experience opportunities with the industry and the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry and Resources.

It is open to Territorians under the age of 25.
