Red Tape Reduction Blueprint Released

Western Australia Treasurer Troy Buswell today released ‘Reducing the Burden – Report of the Red Tape Reduction Group’.
The report outlined 107 recommendations to cut excessive regulation and red tape for Western Australian businesses and consumers.
“This important report provides a road map to slash red tape.” Mr. Buswell said.
“Many recommendations from the report require cultural change in the public service. This has been a theme across our efforts to improve service delivery for taxpayers.”
The report included recommendations to:
- Streamline heavy vehicle transport regulation to potentially save businesses more than $16 Million in a single year.
- Remove excessive compliance on local governments which would potentially save $4.8 Million in a single year.
- Improve marine and caravan licensing arrangements to potentially save business more than $1.8 Million in a single year.
The Treasurer praised the work of group leaders Liza Harvey MLA and Ken Baston MLC who conducted extensive consultation throughout the State.
“They have identified the challenges facing Government but have come up with practical solutions to the problems the community raised with them.” Mr. Buswell said.
A formal Government response to the report would be announced in coming months.
The report followed changes already introduced to simplify the planning system; the streamlining of the environmental approvals processes; the creation of a building commission; and the abolition of the inefficient registration system for hairdressers.
