  • $1.2 Million new facility includes a dedicated administration area, training space, operations facilities and storage
  • Facility can operate as a level 3 incident control centre
  • Newman SES unit collaborated with local government and DFES on planning, design and furnishing of new facility

Members of Newman’s State Emergency Service unit officially have a new home with the opening today of their $1.2 Million purpose-built facility.

“I’m very pleased to have been able to attend this opening and congratulate the Newman SES unit on their achievements to date.” Minister for Emergency Services Francis Logan said.

“I am sure this will be an excellent facility that will meet the needs of the SES unit as they respond to emergencies in their area.”

Facility had been many years in the planning, and the Newman SES unit had worked closely with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and Shire of East Pilbara on its design, planning and furnishing.

Due to its remote location, the new facility has been constructed to operate as a level 3 incident control centre in the event of large scale incidents such as storms, cyclones, fire and land searches within the Pilbara.

Newman SES members have a wide range of responsibilities given their remote location, and the purpose-built facility meets their wide-ranging needs and skill set.
