Queensland Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney

Burke Should Speak For All Queenslanders

Victor P Taffa

Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke has a moral obligation to represent all Australians on matters of national environmental significance, not just the radical greens who hold him to ransom, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said today.

“Tony Burke says he has a legal right to protect the reef.” Mr. Seeney said.

“He’s right about that but he’s forgetting his obligation to represent the best interests of all Queenslanders and Australians, not just the small but vocal number of extreme activists holding him captive.”

“Mr. Burke is beholden to the Greens who feed him dishonest and deceitful assertions about our government’s actions.” Mr. Seeney said.

“Every member of the Queensland Government and every Queenslander are committed to protecting the Great Barrier Reef. The Newman Government’s ports strategy makes that 100 % clear.

“It’s time Mr. Burke represented every person in this state, rather than those he believes will keep the Gillard Government in power.”

“The Newman Government will not let the cheap political games of Mr. Burke and his colleagues in Canberra to hide the truth about the Great Barrier Reef.” Mr. Seeney said.

“We stand by our efforts to protect the reef and will not let the Minister and his mates from the loopy left destroy Queensland’s reputation and the international reputation of the Great Barrier Reef.”

“We will ensure UNESCO gets the full story on what our government is doing to protect the Great Barrier Reef, while ensuring the best possible economic future for all Queenslanders.” Mr. Seeney said.
