New South Wales (NSW) Government is delivering on its commitment to boost housing supply across Sydney, with Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts, today officially opening the first completed private residential building at the $8 Billion Green Square Town Centre.

Mr. Roberts officially welcomed new residents to ‘Ebsworth’, who will be among the 61,000 people expected to live at Green Square by 2030.

“It is a real milestone to open the first residential building to be delivered by UrbanGrowth NSW and Mirvac at Green Square. This entire urban renewal area will deliver more than 30,500 new dwellings and create more than 6,000 new jobs during and after construction.” Mr. Roberts said.

$13 Billion Green Square precinct spans 278 ha and will deliver important retail amenity for inner Sydney, as well as jobs and much needed housing, just minutes from the Green Square Railway Station.

Mr. Roberts said the NSW Government, through UrbanGrowth NSW, was providing 1.8 ha of land, $78 Million in public infrastructure funding and a further $5 Million towards a future public park within the Town Centre. In addition, the NSW Government will contribute $35 Million towards affordable housing within the precinct.

“Today’s milestone is the result of more than a decade of planning, remediation, land consolidation and community consultation that is driving urban transformation. We are creating a world-class urban centre, a vibrant community and a great place for people to live.”

“Solving Sydney’s housing supply is at the forefront of the NSW Government’s planning.”

“Partnerships with the private sector are key to delivering world-class urban precincts and neighbourhoods that will cater for Sydney’s current and future growth.” Mr. Roberts said.

Ebsworth, the 174 apartment block, is situated on the northern end of the Green Square Town Centre on some 5 ha of state government-owned land being delivered in partnership by UrbanGrowth NSW and Mirvac.

Construction of the adjoining 28-storey apartment building, Ovo, comprising 302 apartments and ground floor retail, is due to be completed by 2018. Further stages of the Green Square Town Centre development are progressing through the planning process to deliver more homes for Sydney.
