Territorians will have an opportunity to explore the new Palmerston Regional Hospital ahead of its opening next month, with the Northern Territory Government announcing a community day on Saturday, August 11.

“People of Palmerston and the Rural area deserve easy access to a high quality hospital and Territorians are invited to explore their new facility on August 11 before it opens later that month.” Minister for Health Natasha Fyles said.

“116 bed Hospital is the first new hospital in almost 40 years and it will deliver high quality health services to Palmerston and rural residents and create 300 new jobs.”

New 116 bed, $170 Million hospital, represents the most significant investment in Northern Territory health services in more than 40 years.

This event, to be run between 9 am-1 pm, will give the public an opportunity to tour areas of the hospital and become familiar with the layout and services offered at the new facility.

Palmerston Regional Hospital will provide a number of benefits, including:

  • An emergency department operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
  • Reduce waiting times for planned day and elective day surgery,
  • Provide better access to emergency care,
  • Be the NT’s centre of excellence for rehabilitative care and provide greater access to older people who need complex rehabilitative care,
  • Provide better access to maternity services closer to home.
  • Antenatal and postnatal care,
  • Outpatient clinics, medical imaging including CT scanning, and telehealth care for rural patients.
