New Health Service Provider Takes Over From 1 October 2016

Bright Future For Tasman Peninsula Health Services

Victor P Taffa

Minister for Health Michael Ferguson has welcomed today’s announcement that health services on the Tasman Peninsula are set for a bright and sustainable footing into the future.

“The Hobart District Nursing Service has confirmed that it has signed a Heads of Agreement that will transfer services provided at the Tasman Multi Purpose Service to Huon Eldercare on October 1, 2016.” Mr. Ferguson said.

Huon Eldercare is a respected provider of aged care and community services, so this announcement is a positive outcome for the Tasman community, as it will bolster the sustainability of locally provided health services on the Tasman Peninsula.

Current partnership funding arrangements will continue, with the Federal Government acting as majority funder and the Tasmanian Government contributing a minority share.

The State Government also continues to separately fund a paramedic service based in Nubeena, which is an important support to residents in the local community.

A new Service Delivery Plan will now be negotiated between Huon Eldercare and the State and Federal Governments.

Importantly, Huon Eldercare has confirmed the two general practitioners based at the facility will enter into contracts to continue their services, which will be finalised before the formal transfer date.

Huon Eldercare will also work with other local staff on future employment opportunities in the lead-up to the transfer date of October 1. All employee entitlements have been secured as part of the transfer deal.

“I congratulate both parties for their continuing work on facilitating a smooth transition.”

“I wish to thank Hobart District Nursing Service for the services it has provided to the Tasman community over the years and look forward to working with Huon Eldercare as the new service provider.” Mr. Ferguson said.
