Local builder Sime Construction today started work on the new Esperance Indoor Sports Stadium, with Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray turning the first sod on the joint McGowan Government-Shire of Esperance project.

“Sport is the lifeblood of regional towns like Esperance, and it is clear that the local community is well overdue for a new indoor sports facility.” Minister for Sport and Recreation Mick Murray said.

“Grassroots participation is the base for every level of sport and having quality facilities out in the regions is absolutely vital for local people.”

New multi-sports facility will have an impressive 75 % local content component, supporting the local construction industry and providing an important jobs boost to the region.

$8.36 Million project, funded jointly by the McGowan Government and the Shire of Esperance, also includes upgrades to Noel White Pavilion. The stadium’s construction is expected to take 12 months.

New facility is set to replace the ageing existing indoor sports stadium, providing a long-term home for local grassroots indoor sports.

New stadium will offer 4 new indoor courts providing playing space for basketball, netball, badminton, indoor soccer, indoor hockey and indoor volleyball, as well as activity space for the Esperance Districts and Agricultural Society.

Venue will also have the capacity to host local community events, including the Esperance Agricultural Show.

New Esperance Indoor Sports Stadium will also include:

  • Change room facilities,
  • Kiosk,
  • Kitchen and storage space for users.

Project supports the McGowan Government’s commitment to assist regional communities to build quality, local grassroots sporting facilities promoting healthy, active lifestyles in the country.
