Shadow Minister for Racing Denis Napthine has welcomed Tabcorp’s call for a national approach to funding the Racing Industry.

“National agreement is needed to ensure all participants in wagering, including totalisators, corporate bookmakers and betting exchanges, pay a fair and reasonable contribution to continue the growth and development of racing across Australia.” Dr. Napthine said.

Tabcorp Chief Executive Elmer Funke Kupper told the company’s AGM that a national approach to funding was needed to ensure a vibrant future for the Industry.

Dr. Napthine said the first thing he would do as Minister for Racing would be to seek a meeting of all State and Territory Racing Ministers to develop an agreed National Approach to the funding of our Three Racing Codes.

“In its annual report, Harness Racing Victoria also called for a national approach from all local and interstate operators who conduct wagering and betting on races to deliver a fair return to the racing industries.
