Minister for Sport and Recreation, Lia Finocchiaro, has tonight officially welcomed West Coast and Port Adelaide to Alice Springs ahead of tomorrow night’s NAB Cup at Traeger Park.

Ms. Finocchiaro met representatives from both clubs as they finalise preparations for the round 3 clash.

“We had more than 8,000 attend last month’s Indigenous All Stars and Richmond game at Traeger Park, which shows how much Centralians love their footy.” Ms. Finocchiaro said.

“The Eagles and the Power have strong followings in the Territory, particularly Port Adelaide who has boasted several Territory players on their team over the years including Daniel and Marlon Motlop and Tom Logan.”

“Tomorrow night we could see another Territory star born with former NT Thunder junior and Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) scholarship recipient, Jake Neade expected to line up for Port Adelaide.”

“At just 18 years of age Jake, who hails from the remote community of Elliott and has lived in Alice Springs, has been described as the Power’s new excitement machine after being traded to the club from Greater Western Sydney at the end of last season.” Ms. Finocchiaro said.

“The pint-sized forward has wowed fans in earlier rounds of the NAB Cup and I’m sure he will receive a terrific reception from a vocal home crowd tomorrow night.”

“The Northern Territory Government remains committed to bringing big game sporting events, like the NAB Cup, to the Territory and will contribute $7 Million over 5 years to the AFL to ensure this happens.”

“Having games like the NAB Cup in the Territory allows our up and coming stars, as well as those just starting out in the sport, to see players like Jake Neade in action and aspire to achieve their own dreams of playing AFL.” Ms. Finocchiaro said.

The NAB Cup will be held on the 9th of March at Traeger Park, gates open at 5.00 pm kick-off is at 7.00 pm.

Darwin will also host AFL action in 2013 with premiership games to be held at TIO Stadium on June 1st between the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide and on July 20th when Melbourne play Brisbane.
