Primary Industry Minister Visits Ord River

Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries, Willem Westra van Holthe will today visit the Ord Irrigation Scheme in the West Australian town of Kununurra to inspect potential areas for development.

Mr. Westra van Holthe said the Country Liberals Government is committed to working with the Commonwealth and West Australian Governments to include Northern Territory land in the Ord Irrigation Scheme.

“The economic opportunities the scheme presents are great and I will work hard to ensure the Northern Territory can benefit from future expansions.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.

“During the visit I will be meeting with key regional stakeholders, inspecting current construction activity and will take a first-hand look at potential development areas in the Knox Plain and Keep River areas.”

“I will be accompanied on my visit by the Minister for Regional Development and Indigenous Advancement, Alison Anderson.”

“We will both be holding discussions with the Miriuwung Gajerrong Corporation and local Traditional Owners to talk about the potential development of Northern Territory land.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.
