WA’s Outstanding Tourism Industry Recognised

Tourism Minister Liz Constable congratulated the winners of the 2010 Western Australian Tourism Awards at a Gala Dinner at the Burswood Entertainment Complex.
Dr. Constable said the awards recognised Local Tourism Operators for their achievements and contribution to WA’s Growing Tourism Industry.
“The High Calibre and Diversity of the Award Winners is testament to the State’s exceptional Tourism Industry.” the Minister said.
“Willie Creek Pearl Farm, Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat, Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association CowParade Margaret River, Sandalford Wines and Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster were among some of the big award winners.”
“These businesses play an important role in the State’s economic development, with the tourism sector generating more than 80,000 jobs and contributing $7 Billion to our economy.” Dr. Constable said.
“I would like to commend all the finalists and winners of the 2010 WA Tourism Awards on their achievements as well as the Tourism Council WA for organising such a successful event.”
The awards were presented in 26 categories, with winners receiving a gold, silver or bronze medal. Other awards included the Sir David Brand Award for Tourism, Sir David Brand Medal, Sir David Brand Young Achiever Medal and the FACET Golden Guide Award.
The winners of the 2010 WA Tourism Awards have automatically become finalists in the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, to be held in Perth on March 11, 2011.
Dr. Constable said the State Government was looking forward to sponsoring the prestigious event which would attract about 600 interstate visitors from Australia’s tourism industry.
“The event will enable Western Australia to showcase its unique and extraordinary tourism experiences to our national counterparts.” Dr. Constable said.
