Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek has awarded top honours to eight Queensland state school programs at the 2012 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools (Friday 12 October).

Mr. Langbroek congratulated the winning schools and cluster groups, who were recognised for their outstanding programs in early, middle and senior phases of learning, inclusive education, leadership, innovation, academic success and community or industry partnerships.

“The prestigious Showcase Awards recognise and reward Queensland state schools that are improving outcomes for students through exceptional teaching and collaboration.” Mr. Langbroek said.

“By showcasing these inspiring programs, along with the inspiring people behind them, we are breaking down common misperceptions that ‘you get what you pay for’ in the state education system.”

“Queensland state schools are continually striving for excellence, with school leaders and teachers thinking outside the square to develop new programs and solutions to help students overcome their learning challenges.”

“Schools are working individually, in clusters with other schools, or in partnerships with business and the community, to develop ground-breaking programs that reflect best practice in teaching.”

Mr. Langbroek said more than 140 school programs were nominated for awards this year, with 75 schools and clusters recognised at a regional level and 27 named as state finalists.

“Schools have already been awarded development grants of $5,000 for being state finalists, $1,000 as regional winners, and now our state winners will benefit greatly from an additional $20,000 to invest in their award-winning programs.” Mr. Langbroek said.

“While there could only be one winner in each of the eight categories, I highly commend all of our state finalists and regional winners, for the impressive work they are doing to address the learning needs of their students.”

The 2012 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools are supported by Network Ten, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Village Roadshow Theme Parks, Queensland University of Technology, RemServ, QSuper and BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance.
