One of Western Australia’s leading public schools will undergo a $49.5 Million expansion to meet the needs of future generations in Perth’s growing western suburbs.

Officially opening Churchlands Senior High School’s new year 7 facilities today, Education Minister Peter Collier announced a further $38.8 Million project to boost the school’s capacity to provide education for an extra 500 students from 2018.

“With population growth in the western suburbs set to continue over the next decade, it is vital to provide future generations with additional educational facilities.” Mr. Collier said.

“This multi-million dollar investment is another example of the State Government’s commitment to delivering top-class schools to benefit students and their families for years to come.”

Facilities will include:

  • A teaching block with nine classrooms;
  • A science block with 10 laboratories and a preparation room;
  • A manual arts teaching block comprising a woodwork workshop, two metal workshops, a jewellery/robotics workshop and stores.

There will also be a sports hall with two basketball courts and change rooms; a football oval with the relocation of four hard courts; and conversion of an old woodwork room into a commercial food studio.

A $10.7 Million year 7 project opened today, including nine new classrooms, two science laboratories, visual and performing arts studios, a food room, and an IT laboratory.

The Minister said Churchlands Senior High School, which became an Independent Public School in 2011, had built an outstanding reputation since it opened in 1962.

“The school has a tradition of student excellence in academic, sporting and cultural endeavours and this expansion will allow it to continue on that path.” Mr. Collier said.
