Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Minister Richard Dalla-Riva today officially opened Parwan Valley Mushrooms Pty Ltd’s new $10 Million production facility near Bacchus Marsh.
Mr. Dalla-Riva said the purpose-built facility would produce 2,600 tonnes of mushrooms per year and employ more than 80 people, in roles ranging from specialist growers and harvesters to human resources and administration personnel.
“This capital investment, which is a partnership between the Victorian Coalition Government, Mercus and Perfection Group, will enable Parwan Valley to increase capacity to a level where they expect to have up to a 7% domestic market share, and potentially seek new export opportunities.
“This is a great example of local Victorian companies investing in high-tech manufacturing capabilities to increase productivity, diversify, generate job growth and become market leaders.”
The Parwan Valley Mushroom’s site commenced as a Greenfield site in November 2010 and is set over 17 ha. The state-of-the-art facility features a fully automated irrigation system and a customised pre-packing line, along with multiple climate control systems.
In another boost for regional industry, Parwan Valley Mushrooms Pty Ltd is sourcing compost for its mushroom substrate from Bendigo compost producer Scatoplus.
The Coalition Government provided funding support to Parwan Valley Mushrooms Pty Ltd through its Regional Investment Initiative.
Mr. Dalla-Riva added that food processing was an important part of the manufacturing sector in Victoria, and the regions have a significant amount of food manufacturers across Victoria.
“The Coalition Government recently announced a $58 Million funding package for the Victorian manufacturing sector that will assist manufacturers across the regions to transition to a high-volume productivity focused manufacturing model, such as we have seen here today in Bacchus Marsh.”
While in Bachus Marsh, Mr. Dalla-Riva also visited Colour Vision Systems Pty Ltd and Tripod Farmers Pty Ltd.
