MAST Campaign To Improve Water Safety

Victor P Taffa

Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding said that the Hodgman Government is committed to making Tasmania a safer place for all, and a pleasure to launch the Boat Safe and Paddle Safe Partner campaign.

“This important initiative is being run by Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST), and it aims to educate retailers on key safety requirements, therefore giving the public confidence when seeking boating and paddling advice.” Mr. Hidding said.

Retailers and dealers must fulfil a set number of criteria to become a Boat Safe or Paddle Safe Partner and MAST will provide extensive training on safety to ensure they will then provide the correct information to stakeholders.

Once trained, retailers and dealers will receive a package of information including a quick reference guide, swing tags with safety message for their stock and branding identifying them as partners of MAST.

“With over 40 paddlers rescued last year due to inexperience or a lack of understanding of water safety, the importance of this campaign cannot be underestimated as we head into the warmer months, and I commend MAST for their work in organising this Australia-first initiative.” Mr. Hidding said.
