Western Australia Minister for Emergency Services Rob Johnson

725 Years Of Service From 31 Of WA’s Emergency Volunteers

Victor P Taffa

More than 30 emergency services volunteers have been honoured for dedicating a total of 725 years to helping Western Australian communities in times of need.

Emergency Services Minister Rob Johnson today presented National Medals to members from volunteer Bush Fire Brigades, the State Emergency Service and Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service for their 15 or more years of service.

“It is an extraordinary effort to dedicate 15 years or more of your life helping other people in need.” Mr. Johnson said.

“These volunteers are prepared to leave work for hours or even days on end to help their communities out during emergencies.”

“They often put their lives on the line to assist during storms, bushfires, cyclones, building fires, floods and road crash rescues.” Mr. Johnson said.

“In addition, they spend many hours behind the scenes in areas like training, administration, management and promoting safety messages.”

“We owe a great deal to our emergency services volunteers and this is a wonderful opportunity to thank them for their valuable contribution.”

The Minister said there were several volunteers who had served the community for an exceptional amount of time.

“Special mention must be made of Stanley Tait from Albany Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, who is receiving his fourth clasp for 55 years of service.”

“I also congratulate Kenneth Seath from the Merredin Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Norman Whitburn from the York Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, both of whom are receiving their third clasps for 45 years of service.”

“To dedicate this enormous amount of time as a volunteer is simply magnificent and well deserving of recognition and I commend these three volunteers on reaching their remarkable milestones.” the Minister said.

Today’s Volunteer National Medal presentation was one of several that took place across the State to honour FESA’s emergency services volunteers.

A total of 15 volunteers received their first National Medal for 15 years of service, 10 received first clasps for 25 years of service, three received second clasps for 35 years of service, two received third clasps for 45 years of service and one received the fourth clasp for 55 years of service.
