Liberal Nationals To Boost Funding For Community Crime Prevention Program

Every Victorian should have the right to feel safe in our suburbs and towns, Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said.

“Under the violent crime wave because of Premier Daniel Andrews’ soft touch, Victorians no longer feel safe in their own homes and communities.”

That’s why a Liberal Nationals Government will boost funding to the Community Crime Prevention program and victims’ support programs to $38 Million.

As a sign of its importance, a Liberal Nationals Government will also reintroduce the Crime Prevention Ministerial portfolio so there is a dedicated focus on keeping people and communities safe.

“A Liberal Nationals Government will also reverse Premier Andrews’ funding cuts and we will have a Minister for Community Safety to focus on keeping Victorians safe.” Opposition Leader Guy said.

Premier Andrews axed the Crime Prevention Ministerial Portfolio which was an early indication of his Government’s lack of priority and focus on community safety.

“A Government I lead will have a laser-like focus on making Victorians safe.” Opposition Leader Guy said.

“We are going to have more Police on the beat, tougher jail sentences and we are going to fix the broken bail and parole systems.”

Funding boost will be split into 7 separate funds as follows:

  • Community Safety Fund $4 Million over 4 years
  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) $2 Million over 4 years
  • Graffiti Prevention Grants $4 Million over 4 years
  • Supporting Community Safety Programs Fund $1 Million over 4 years
  • Public Safety Infrastructure Fund $24 Million over 4 years
  • Neighbourhood Watch funding boost $2 Million over 4 years
  • Support for victims of crime organisations $1 Million over 4 years

“Daniel Andrews and Labor’s cuts to funding for community safety has left Victorians less safe.” Shadow Minister for Police Edward O’Donohue said.

“This election will be a referendum on who Victorians trust to keep us safe.”

“This election Victorians will have a choice between more of the same of Daniel Andrews’ soft touch on crime or a tougher, zero tolerance approach from Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals.” Shadow Minister O’Donohue said.

Under Premier Andrews Community Crime Prevention funding has been cut by $10 Million.
