New and recent appointments to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust were officially announced today.

Minister for Environment Gabrielle Upton confirmed Philip Marcus Clark AM as the new Chair, following his appointment as a member in 2017.

Current trustee Michelle Leishman has been reappointed for a further term, and is joined by new members Penelope Diamantakiou, Tony Pearson, Giselle Collins, Debra Townsend and Mark Fleming.

Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust has stewardship of one of the nation’s most important scientific institutions and contributes $140 Million to the New South Wales economy each year.

It oversees the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Domain, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan and the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah.

“Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust is a world-leader in vital plant sciences, the custodian of some of New South Wales most iconic public spaces and horticultural assets.” Minister Upton said.

“Coming years will see major investment into the Trust, with a $60 Million commitment from the New South Wales Government to build the new Centre of Innovation in Plant Sciences at Mount Annan. This will create Australia’s premier botanic science research facility and the new home of the National Herbarium of New South Wales.”

“Mr. Clark has made an outstanding contribution to the board as a Trustee, and with the major investments being made by the Trust, his extensive experience in professional services, infrastructure and business strategy will be of great benefit to the Trust’s work.” Minister Upton said.

Minister Upton paid tribute to outgoing members Jennie Churchill, David Saxelby, and Sandra Hook as well as former Chair Ken Boundy, who recently retired from the Trust after 6 years in the position.
