Fed Govt Overturns Vic Health Cuts, O’Byrne Does Nothing To Stop Tas Funding Cuts

Victor P Taffa

The Federal Government’s decision to overturn cuts to Victoria’s health budget is a slap in the face for Tasmania, Shadow Minister for Health Jeremy Rockliff said.

“The Federal Government cut $107 Million from Victoria’s health budget, yet after the Victorian Government complained, the Federal Government overturned the decision.”

“The question is, why hasn’t Tasmania’s Health Minister, Michelle O’Byrne, campaigned to have Federal Government cuts to Tasmania’s health budget overturned as well?”

“Tasmania stands to lose $22 Million over the next four years, with $6 Million of cuts this year alone.” Mr. Rockliff said.

“Minister O’Byrne admitted the Federal cuts would hurt Tasmania, saying the health budget in Tasmania would have to be adjusted in light of the cut.” (Examiner 7 Dec 12).

“Minister O’Byrne has remained silent about the cuts, which shows she is not interested in fighting for Tasmania’s fair share of health funding.” Mr. Rockliff said.
