  • Former City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder mayor Ron Yuryevich appointed as commissioner

Local Government Minister Paul Miles today announced the appointment of a commissioner to the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley following the resignation of five councillors.

The resignations meant the council had been left with no quorum and was therefore unable to conduct its business.

“As a result of these resignations, the Governor has made an order under the Local Government Act 1995 declaring all offices vacant and has appointed a commissioner in place of a council.” Mr. Miles said.

The Minister said the former mayor of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Ron Yuryevich would take up the role of commissioner, effective immediately.

“Mr. Yuryevich is a well-respected and very experienced commissioner.” Mr. Miles said.

“I am confident he will provide good government to the people of the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley until a new council is elected in 2017.”
