Tourism Commission To Boost Industry

Victor P Taffa

Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Matt Conlan, has today steered legislation through Parliament that will see a Tourism Commission established in the Territory.

“The legislation will revitalise the industry for the Territory’s 700 tourism related businesses.” Mr. Conlan said.

“The move will see Tourism NT reconstituted as a Commission.”

“The Commission will bring new rigour and a depth of expertise to grow our tourism sector.”

“The Government is determined to see the Territory marketed as one product, that being The Northern Territory.” Mr. Conlan said.

“This will see a strong focus on product development and marketing.”

“Commissioners will be sought with experience and knowledge in the industry.” Mr. Conlan said.

“Air North CEO, Michael Bridge, has been appointed Commission chair, and long-time Territory tourism administrator, Tony Mayell, will come on board in December as CEO.”

“This is the first step in returning tourism to the powerhouse industry in the Territory that it once was.” Mr. Conlan said.
