Minister for Central Australia Robyn Lambley today announced she will convene a meeting with key stakeholders in Alice Springs to discuss all aspects of alcohol policy in the Northern Territory.

Ms. Lambley said the meeting will be held on Friday 5th October and will provide the opportunity for open dialogue about the Briscoe Inquiry between Government and stakeholders.

“The Country Liberals Government is committed to addressing the Coroner’s recommendations and the Coroner’s report into the death of Kwementyaye Briscoe will form the basis for discussions in next week’s meeting.” Ms. Lambley said.

“We will look into the issues surrounding this tragic case and will discuss how to prevent a situation like this from happening again.”

“Government is serious about tackling alcohol abuse and preventing further alcohol related deaths, like that of Kwementyaye Briscoe.” Ms. Lambley said.

“That is why we have reintroduced quarterly crime statistics and have scrapped the Labor Government’s failed Banned Drinkers Register an ineffective tool which didn’t stop problem drunks accessing alcohol.”

“I look forward to next week’s meeting and working together with key stakeholders in Central Australia to address this critical issue.” Ms. Lambley said.
