Tasmania Opposition Leader Will Hodgman

McKim’s Threat To Upper House

Victor P Taffa

Coming on top of voting to increase the size of Parliament, Mr. McKim’s latest threat to try and change Tasmania’s constitution to suit his own political self-interest ahead of the budget smacks of political desperation, Opposition Leader Will Hodgman said.

“If the issue is so important to Mr. McKim, why has he done nothing since raising it in Parliament in June last year? He hasn’t even brought on a debate for his motion to send the issue to a proper and considered parliamentary inquiry.*” Mr. Hodgman said.

“Mr. McKim knows what will be in next month’s budget. Is he suggesting that he’s not confident the budget will make it through the Legislative Council on its own merits?”

“The Liberals reserve the right to look objectively at next month’s State Budget and consider it on its merits, as we do with every piece of legislation.” Mr. Hodgman said.
