Police Arrest Man Following Alleged Car-Jacking – Wellington

Police have arrested a man following the alleged car-jacking of a man and woman at Wellington in the State’s Central West yesterday.

About 3 am (Saturday 23 January) a woman had her Daewoo sedan parked in Arthur Street, Wellington when she allegedly disturbed a number of men attempting to siphon fuel from her car.

The woman and her male friend got into the car and drove to nearby Swift Street where it is alleged a 27-year-old man confronted the pair and threatened them wife a screwdriver.

They exited the vehicle where it is alleged the 27-year-old stole the car and drove off.

Police were contacted and a short time later the car was found abandoned approximately 15 kilometres from Wellington on the Mitchell Highway.

Police from Canobolas Local Area Command later stopped a Holden Commodore as it entered the City of Orange.

It will be alleged during a search of the car a number of screwdrivers as well the woman’s wallet and mobile phone were found inside the car.

A 27-year-old man was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged with aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Orange Local Court where he was remanded in custody to re-appear tomorrow.
