One Man Crime Wave Arrested Following Alleged Car-Jackings In Sydney’s North West
A man arrested following three car-jackings in Sydney’s North-West yesterday will face court today charged with 25 offences following an alleged crime spree across Sydney.
Strike Force Mose was established by officers from the Metropolitan Robbery Unit (MRU) to investigate a spate of armed robberies targeting hotels, chemists and doctors surgeries across Sydney since the beginning of January.
Police yesterday arrested a 39-year-old man after he was allegedly involved in a number of car-jackings in Sydney’s North-West.
The first incident happened shortly before 10 am when a man entered a home in Warumbui Avenue, Baulkham Hills, and allegedly assaulted a man before stealing his car.
About 11 am a woman was allegedly threatened by a man armed with a knife who then stole her car as she was in Cropley Drive, Baulkham Hills. She was shaken but uninjured by the incident.
About 20 minutes later a girl was allegedly threatened by a man armed with a knife in Wandella Road at Northmead. He allegedly stole her green Nissan Pulsar and drove from the scene before it crashed into a highway patrol vehicle near Windsor Road.
The 39-year-old man was arrested behind a service station on Windsor Road after a short foot chase and taken to Castle Hill Police Station.
Detectives from Strike Force Mose will allege the 39-year-old man began his crime spree on Friday 1 January allegedly robbing a chemist in Asquith.
The man is also alleged to have broken into a home on Paterson Road, Springwood, on Monday 11 January where he stole a Mitsubishi Pajero.
The next day, the man allegedly broke into a house on Franklin Crescent at Blackett where he stole a Ford Falcon before later robbing pharmacies in Parramatta and Pennant Hills.
Police will allege over the next few days the man robbed a pharmacy in Cabarita, car-jacked a Mazda outside a home in Tenterfield Street, Strathfield, and robbed a shoe store in Drummoyne.
The man’s spree is alleged to have continued where he robbed a hotel in Pendle Hill, broke into homes in Bondi Junction, Bondi, North Bondi and Rose Bay stealing a Citroen C5, Toyota Yaris, BMW X5 and a Volkswagen.
The man has been charged with 25 offences including:
- 11 counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon,
- 11 counts of aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence,
- One count of enter enclosed lands
- One count of use offensive weapon to avoid lawful detention
- One warrant for his arrest
The man was refused bail and is expected to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
