Man Charged Following Drug Death – Albury

A man will appear in court today charged in relation to the drug death of a teenager at Albury.

Last Wednesday (13 January 2010), a number of young adults overdosed on a substance described as liquid ecstasy at a party in Albury.

Several of the young people were taken to Albury Base Hospital, and a 19-year-old woman was later taken to Melbourne for specialist treatment.

The woman’s condition deteriorated and she died last Saturday (16 January 2010).

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

A 36-year-old man from Albury was arrested yesterday (Monday 18 January 2010) and charged with manslaughter.

He has also been charged with two counts of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in relation to two men attending last Wednesday’s party.

The man was bail refused and will appear before Albury Local Court today.

Investigations are continuing into the incident at last Wednesday’s party, and the matter is being investigated by Albury Detectives with assistance from NSW State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
