Boat Explosion Seriously Injures Man – Bobbin Head
A man has been airlifted to hospital suffering serious burns following an explosion on a boat at Bobbin Head in Sydney’s North today.
About 8:30 am, a 37-year-old Toongabbie man and his 36-year-old wife, were onboard their 30 foot cabin cruiser at Empire Marina when the boat exploded.
Police have been told that the man had just refueled the boat and was in the process of leaving the wharf when the explosion occurred.
As a result of the explosion the man fell into the water suffering from extensive burns to his legs, chest, arms and face.
A nearby marine worker heard the explosion and jumped into the water to help the injured man, remaining in the water until Paramedics arrived.
The man was airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital suffering from significant burns and remains in a serious condition.
Police from Ku-ring-gai Local Area Command attended the scene and are conducting investigations into the cause of the fire. The boat suffered only minor damage during the incident.
