LIVESTOCK

  • In June 2010, the trend estimate for cattle slaughterings continued to increase, up 1% from May 2010 to 662,000.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings continued to fall in June 2010, down to 499,000, a decrease of 5% from May 2010 and 44% from June 2009.
  • Lamb slaughterings in June 2010 increased by 2% from May 2010.
  • The trend estimate for pig slaughterings remained relatively steady at 385,000.

MEAT

  • In June 2010, the trend estimate for beef production rose 3% from June 2009, to 182,000 tonnes.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production continued to decline, falling 39 from June 2009 to 11,000 tonnes.
  • In June 2010 lamb production increased 3% from May 2010.
  • Pig meat production was up 4% from June 2009.
