Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss announced today a $12.1 Million boost to open up new areas of Litchfield National Park to visitors, working with key stakeholders.

Investment will open up 5 stunning new swimming spots, 4wd tracks, new campgrounds and more picnic areas in one of Australia’s most spectacular landscapes.

Package is part of the Northern Territory Government’s $103 Million Turbocharging Tourism stimulus plan to attract more visitors, create local jobs and put more money into the pockets of Territorians.

“This will be the biggest ever investment in new infrastructure to establish Litchfield as a premier tourist destination for adventure seekers.” Minister Moss said.

“Litchfield is our most popular park, and we have listened to what Territorians and travellers want more of, and we are delivering.”

Litchfield National Park is a key driver of tourism in the Top End and Batchelor area and is ideally positioned as a tourism development location, experiencing strong year on year growth in visitor numbers.

With almost 370,000 visitors per year, and numbers expected to continue growing, the new swimming holes and adventure opportunities will ensure visitors get the most out of their stay in the Top End.

It is estimated the expansion will support an additional 60, 000 visitors annually, providing a significant boost to regional tourism.

Work will be done in close consultation with key stakeholders.

In line with the Plan of Management for Litchfield National Park released last year, Minister Moss said the government investment could also open up potential opportunities for culturally appropriate commercial tourism ventures in the Park, in conjunction with native title holders and key stakeholders.
