New Railway Stations At Southland And Grovedale

Victoria Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu

Victoria Shadow Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder

Victor P Taffa

The Coalition will spend $38 Million to build two new Railway Stations.

The $13 Million Southland Railway Station on the Frankston Line between Highett and Cheltenham will feature two platforms and ramps and lifts for full-time access by commuters with a disability, senior citizens, and mothers with prams and children with bicycles.

Under Premier John Brumby, new Stations have been built without ramps, leaving passengers stranded when lifts break down.

The Southland Railway Station will vastly improve Public Transport access for Shoppers and staff at Westfield Southland Shopping Centre.

The Coalition will ensure that as many trains as possible will stop at Southland Railway Station.

Construction of the Station will feature:

• A Two-Bay Bus Interchange;

• An Enclosed Waiting Room on at least one Platform;

• Closed-Circuit TV monitoring on both Platforms;

• A Secure Parkiteer Bicycle cage on the city-bound Platform;

• Tactile Paving on both Platforms;

• A Designated Drop-off and Pick-up Area.

A $25 Million Grovedale Railway Station in Geelong will also be built under the Coalition.

The Station will be built near Rossack Drive and Heyers Road to enable access from the Surf Coast Highway and Torquay and Geelong’s fast-expanding Southern Suburbs including Armstrong Creek.

The New Station will feature:

• A fully-enclosed, airconditioned and heated Waiting Room;

• A Carpark for at least 200 Cars;

• Staffing from first to last Train;

• A V/Line booking office;

• Facilities that is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.

The Coalition will work with V/Line to maximise the number of Geelong, South Geelong or Marshall and Warrnambool Line Trains that will stop at Grovedale.
