Driver Clocked At 142km/h On Warringah Freeway

Police from Harbourside Highway Patrol have confiscated the licence of a man allegedly detected travelling at more than 140 km/h on the Warringah Freeway at the weekend.

The fully-marked Highway Patrol vehicle was entering the freeway via Berry Street about 8.15 am yesterday when it was passed by a silver Mitsubishi sedan allegedly travelling at high speed.

A speed check showed the vehicle was allegedly travelling at 142 km/h in the 80 km/h zone.

Police pulled the driver over and issued him with a traffic infringement notice for exceed speed by more than 45 km/h, and immediately suspended his licence for six months.

This offence carries a fixed penalty of $1,744 and, with double demerits being in force, the man lost 12 points from his licence.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Leumeah, allegedly told Police he was late for work.
