The State Government has awarded ‘preferred respondent’ status for the operational and facilities management of the Perth Arena to AEG Ogden.
Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the new State-Of-The-Art Facility would be open in 2012 and it was essential it be operated by a world class venue operator with the skills and network to attract the national and international events West Australians deserved.
“AEG Ogden is one of the leading sports and entertainment companies in the world, specialising in venue ownership and management of venues such as the O2 Arena, London; Staples Centre, Los Angeles; Acer Arena, Sydney; and Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.” Mr. Waldron said.
“AEG is responsible for the management of venues in the Asia Pacific region, including a network of arenas; stadiums; convention and exhibition centres; and performing arts theatres in Australia, China, Malaysia and Qatar.”
The company also owns AEG LIVE, a leading concert promoter, developing and promoting current concert tours including Celine Dion and Justin Timberlake.
“The State Government wants to ensure Perth Arena provides regular, high quality, memorable entertainment and becomes a focal point for major concert and sports events.” Mr. Waldron said.
The appointment has been welcomed by key international promoters including Luke Hede from Live Nation. Live Nation is the largest live entertainment company in the world and is currently promoting concert tours by artists as diverse as Lady GaGa, Kings of Leon and The Eagles.
“We are delighted to see a major event organisation like AEG Ogden managing Perth Arena and we expect to be working with them to secure major national and international acts into the venue as soon as it opens.” Mr. Hede said.
VenuesWest Chairman Graham Partridge said his organisation was delighted at the Government’s decision to award ‘preferred respondent’ status to AEG Ogden.
