Treasurer Peter Gutwein said the Hodgman Government is proud to support the expansion of Launceston and Northern Tasmania’s growing festival and community event scene.

“Today, I am pleased to announce the Launceston Festivale Committee has been successful in its application for funding under the Community Infrastructure Fund minor grants program.” Treasurer Gutwein said.

$30,000 grant will be used to buy locally made outdoor tables and sun umbrellas to be used by Festivale and other not-for-profit groups including Agfest and Carols by Candlelight.

Agfest and Festivale put Launceston and Northern Tasmania on the events calendar map each year and both are terrific examples of how local community groups and volunteers can put together first class events enjoyed by thousands.

Supporting Agfest and Festivale is part of the Tasmanian Government’s plan to grow tourism and the visitor economy which supports local businesses and importantly regional jobs.

“Earlier this year the Government also announced it would provide $80,000 each year for the next three years so Festivale organisers can implement a new tourism strategy to build the festival’s profile and attract more interstate visitors to the event.” Treasurer Gutwein said.
