Families in Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs are a step closer to having an exciting new local school, after land was secured to build Kalkallo Common Primary School (interim name).

Minister for Education James Merlino today announced that land at Sequoia Drive, Kalkallo has been purchased to start work on the school.

“I’m excited that the community’s vision for a new primary school in Kalkallo is turning into a reality and students will get to attend a brand-new school with first-rate facilities.” Minister for Education James Merlino said.

School is set to open in 2022 and include general and specialist teaching spaces, administration areas, a performing arts and physical education building including a competition grade gymnasium, outdoor sporting facilities and play areas.

School will cater for up to 525 students from Melbourne’s northern suburbs once completed.

“Securing land for a new primary school will mean students in Kalkallo will get easy access to state-of-the-art facilities.” Member for Yuroke Ros Spence said.

Andrews Government has invested $6.1 Billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades across the state, supporting over 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.

Kalkallo Common Primary School (interim name) is part of the Andrews Government’s school building boom that will see 100 new government schools open by 2026.

This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the government delivering 11 new schools across the state, due to open in 2020.
