Northern Territory Shadow Treasurer John Elferink

No Job-No Territory

Victor P Taffa

The unemployment data released by the ABS today highlights the ongoing situation the Labor Government has created with their mismanagement of the Territory economy, Shadow Treasurer, John Elferink said.

“If you don’t have a job and a home, then you can’t stay in the Territory.” Mr. Elferink said.

“The Territory population of working age is going backwards, yet there are 50% more people looking for work than this time last year, the number well over 5,000, and more and more Territory families need to earn dual-incomes to survive because of the highest rents and highest overall cost of living in the country.”

“Labor has failed to deliver the balance that is needed in the housing market, it has failed to deliver a policy that addresses the cost of living, and it is failing Territorians with its big spending promises which don’t deliver any real outcomes.”

“3,500 workers have voted with their hip-pockets and left the Territory. That the unemployment rate isn’t double its current level is because of that fact.” Mr. Elferink said.
